2018

CAPtalks

To give the approximately 100,000 children with disabilities in the Netherlands a voice, the concept of CAPtalks was created. These are stories by children with disabilities, told by children with disabilities. Because no one has more experience with life’s obstacles than these children themselves. But equally, no one has more ideas about how to overcome these obstacles and seize opportunities.

In collaboration with the Disabled Child foundation, the first CAPtalks event was organized in 2018. Held at De Flint in Amersfoort, ten children shared their stories and presented their views on what needs to change to improve the position of children with disabilities. It was an unforgettable afternoon filled with beautiful and inspiring stories. Singer Douwe Bob, ambassador for the Disabled Child foundation, performed, and Princess Laurentien also attended, highlighting once again the importance of listening to children with disabilities.

Ultimately, there were three winners: Robin, Marie Claire, and Julian. Together with Merijn, they became the new quartet of child ambassadors for the Disabled Child foundation.

2020

CAPtalks

A second CAPtalks follows in 2020, this time at the Gooiland Theater in Hilversum. Eight finalists prepare the speech of a lifetime to convince the jury, which includes YouTuber Dylan Haegens. The songs Douwe Bob sings are beautiful, the children’s stories, which give a special glimpse into their lives, are impressive. In the end, four children with disabilities are chosen as winners: Leona, Pauline, Hüseyin and Joël. They are the new children’s ambassadors of the Disabled Child foundation and will stand up for the interests of their peers with disabilities.

2019

Canal Pride Utrecht

In 2019, the foundation participated in the Canal Pride Utrecht. With the slogan Hot! No Matter What…, we showcased that everyone has the right to be proud of who they are, regardless of their disability, sexual orientation, color, or gender. Sharing this message with over 100,000 people lining the canals of Utrecht was an incredible and powerful experience.
